Target of Opportunity Cover Sheet – Semester

Context: This cover sheet shall be used by eligible target of opportunity observation proposers on all Palomar telescopes (Hale, P60, and P48 according to eligibility). This form does not cover Keck ToO observation use cases—instead Keck ToO proposers shall use resources available through the WMKO Observer Portal.

Instructions: Fill in the required information. Most field titles have context and/or popup help text that is displayed on mouse hover. When finished, save the form on your computer as a PDF document (click the PRINT button to open the print dialog box on your computer, then save the form as a PDF) to be merged with the cover sheet and the discussion section of your proposal.

Our solicitation forms are evolving to add features and hopefully streamline program specification and proposal preparation. The forms are extensively tested with the Chrome browser on multiple platforms, and tested to a lesser extent with Safari and Firefox and Edge.

Some known, browser-specific issues::

  1. Safari may not invoke the print dialog correctly more than once using the PRINT button. In that circumstance we recommend using the browser print command (File→Print).
  2. Firefox does not clear/reset the form properly on refresh. To reset the form to its proper initial state use shift + refresh.
  3. Internet Explorer is not supported and its use is not recommended for these solicitation forms.

Status
Priority Investigators submitting multiple proposals shall clearly indicate whether this proposal represents their top or primary priority or is of secondary importance in their submissions. Only one proposal should be designated as primary. Linked
to Keck Indicate if this request is linked to a Keck proposal in this cycle. Relevant for Caltech proposers only.
Linked
to P200 Indicate if this request is linked to a P200/Hale proposal in this cycle. Relevant for Caltech proposers only.
Linked
to P48 Indicate if this request is linked to a P48/Samuel Oschin proposal in this cycle. Relevant for Caltech proposers only.
Linked
to P60 Indicate if this request is linked to a P60 proposal in this cycle. Relevant for Caltech proposers only.

Project
New/Cont Project Indicate if this is a new or continuing project request. New requests should estimate the total observing time/semesters for completion in the proposal discussion (template section 3.3). Continuing project proposals should review project status and estimate observing time/semesters needed for completion (template section 3.3). * Previous
ToO Indicate whether PI has been allocated ToO interrupts in previous allocation cycles (y/n). ToO observers shall report on ToO allocations from previous semesters in proposal discussion (template section 2.7). #

NameInstitution

In the spaces below, enter the number of interrupts, the duration of each interrupt and the instrument(s) to be used.

Number The number of ToO interrupts of this type (duration and instrument specification) being requested. Integer number with viable range 1 – 12 inclusive. Duration The requested ToO interrupt duration (elapsed time) in hours. Decimal hours with viable range 0.5 – 1 hr. COO policy allows multiple allocated interrupts to be concatenated up to a maximum 2 hr continuous/total interrupt duration per night. See the ToO policy. Telescope Instrument(s) List of viable instruments for the requested interrupt type. See P200 instruments, ZTF camera, and SEDM.
