Title: ALMA - The Big New Telescope at 16,500 ft
Lecturer: Nick Scoville
Position: Professor
Institution: Caltech
Abstract:
The Atacama Large mm-Telescope Array has just come into operation in Chile. This array of 66 very high frequency radio telescopes is the most technically challenging telescope ever built and it will provide higher resolution than the Hubble telescope. I will describe the facility, provide a travelog to the site and describe the exciting science results already coming in.
