This SN was discovered by LOSS
(IAUC 8375) on July 21, 2004, but was actually already visible
on July 11, 2004, and absent on June 30, 2004, so at most 21 after
explosion when reported.
The host galaxy
MCG +04-1-48
is at z=0.019327 (NED).
Matheson et al.
(IAUC 8376) obtained a
spectrum of this SN on July 23, 2004, identifying it as a type II
SN.
Photometric typing using prompt P60 BgVR photometry yielded
consistent results with the spectroscopic information.
