This SN was discovered by LOSS
<a href="http://cfa-www.harvard.edu/iauc/08300/08386.html#Item1"> 
(IAUC 8386)</a> on Aug 11. The SN was absent on Aug 1, indicating
age less than 10 days after explosion at discovery.<br>

The host galaxy 
<a href="http://nedwww.ipac.caltech.edu/cgi-bin/nph-objsearch?objname=NGC+799&extend=no&out_csys=Equatorial&out_equinox=J2000.0&obj_sort=RA+or+Longitude&of=pre_text&zv_breaker=30000.0&list_limit=5&img_stamp=YES">NGC 799</a> 
is at z=0.019730 (NED).<br>

A spectrum obtained by Gal-Yam, Fox and Kulkarni 
<a href="http://www.astronomerstelegram.org/?read=321">ATEL 321</a>

IAUC 8387</a>) on Aug 13, 2004, indicates it is a young type Ia SN<br>
<br>
This SN is the target of an HST follow-up campaign as part of the
large type Ia-UV program, PI Filippenko.<br>
