SN 2004ek:<br>

This SN was discovered by Tom Boles and Tim Puckett 
<a href="http://cfa-www.harvard.edu/iauc/08400/08405.html#item1"> 
(IAUC 8405)</a> on September 9, 2004, and further photometry
showed it to be rising.<br>
<br>
The host galaxy 
<a href="http://nedwww.ipac.caltech.edu/cgi-bin/nph-objsearch?objname=ugc+724&extend=no&out_csys=Equatorial&out_equinox=J2000.0&obj_sort=RA+or+Longitude&of=pre_text&zv_breaker=30000.0&list_limit=5&img_stamp=YES">UGC 724</a> 
is at z=0.017275 (NED).<br>

In <a href="http://cfa-www.harvard.edu/iauc/08400/08409.html#Item2">
IAUC 8409</a> Modjaz and collaborators report its classification as a young type II event.

This is confirmed by Filippenko and collaborators who find that the Halpha line is
mostly in emission <a href="http://cfa-www.harvard.edu/iauc/08400/08411.html#item1"> 
(IAUC 8411)</a>.<br>
