This SN was discovered by LOSS 
<a href="http://cfa-www.harvard.edu/iauc/08400/08412.html#item2"> 
(IAUC 8412)</a> on September 25, 2004, and was absent on September 21, 
2004, so discovered shortly after explosion.<br>

The host galaxy 
<a href="http://nedwww.ipac.caltech.edu/cgi-bin/nph-objsearch?objname=mcg-01-7-24&extend=no&out_csys=Equatorial&out_equinox=J2000.0&obj_sort=RA+or+Longitude&of=pre_text&zv_breaker=30000.0&list_limit=5&img_stamp=YES">MCG -01-7-24</a> 
is at z=0.014714 (NED).<br>

This is a type II event based on SNIFS spectroscopy by P. Nugent.<br>
<br>
Modjaz and collaborators confirm its classification as a young type II event.
