This SN was discovered by Rin Arbour (IAUC 8428) on November 4, 2004, and was absent on October 31, 2004, so discovered rather young.

The host galaxy NGC 6949 is at z=0.009210 (NED).

Spectra reported by Modjaz et al. indicate early Ia.
