This SN was discovered by LOSS
<a href="http://cfa-www.harvard.edu/iauc/08400/08431.html#item2"> 
(IAUC 8431)</a> on October 28, 2004, and absent on October 22, 2004, 
so discovered rather young.<br>

The host galaxy 
<a href="http://nedwww.ipac.caltech.edu/cgi-bin/nph-objsearch?objname=mcg-02-14-3&extend=no&out_csys=Equatorial&out_equinox=J2000.0&obj_sort=RA+or+Longitude&of=pre_text&zv_breaker=30000.0&list_limit=5&img_stamp=YES">MCG -02-14-3</a> 
is at z=0.008916 (NED).<br>

Spectrum reported by Salvo et al. (IAUC 8434) shows this is a type II SN, 
"approximately two weeks after explosion".
