service

Send the telescope to the service position under hardware servo control.

Arguments:
(none)

Context:
Before a person can go to the secondary of the telescope to work on a receiver, it is necessary to first send the telescope to the service position. This can either be done with a physical switch in the pedestal of the telescope, or by sending the service command.

IMPORTANT Note that when the telescope is sent to the service position by the service command, it is essential to also subsequently toggle the service switch in the pedestal, and disable computer control by turning off the computer control switch in the pedestal, before ascending the telescope. In particular, note that a wind alarm could cause the telescope to move at any time if this is not done.

While the telescope is under computer control, the effect of a previous service command will be cancelled by sending any other motion command, such as a slew or a track command.
