Procedure: This experiment compares the surface brightness (µ) at the site of the SN (as measured at the GALEX resolution of 5.6 arcsec) with the average µ from the measured profile in the UV (NGA) or the IR (LGA). The top two rows of plots show the magnitude offset for the UV and IR wavebands. The SN sites with µ fainter than the profile are on the left half of the histograms and those with brighter sites are on the right half. The legend indicates the split of SN sites between fainter:brighter for each SN type.

The bottom two rows show histograms of the fraction of host galaxy light interior to the SN site.

Interpretation: The top four plots show that SNe Ia prefer sites that are fainter than the average at the site radius. This shows up regardless of color, although it is most significant for the NUV. SNe Ibc also prefer fainter parts of the host galaxy, but with less significance. SNe II seem to prefer average to slightly brighter parts of the host galaxy.

The lower four plots don't show a significant difference between SN types most likely due to small numbers.
