Patrick’s Pastimes
Patrick’s Pastimes
I am a member of the professional staff in the Astronomy Department at Caltech. I follow my research interests on outflows in nearby galaxies, and I have been a long-term member of the COSMOS sky survey team. Meanwhile, I manage the IT group responsible for computing in the Astronomy Department and related research groups, mostly in the Cahill Center for Astronomy and Astrophysics at Caltech. We also provide IT services for Palomar Observatory.
When I’m not at work, I enjoy time with my wife, Marcia and my twin boys, Daniel and James. I like to work on my garden and homebrew beer. We like to hike the nearby San Gabriel Mountains and Eaton Canyon, sometimes locating a geocache or two.
I also have a small business providing IT consulting, primarily to academic science departments. I leverage my 20 years in astronomy and computing to provide my clients with new ideas on how to better apply computing in their classrooms and research environments.
