MAKEE: Description of Input Files

The program MAKEE accepts standard "raw" HIRES image files as input. The filenames are specified on the command line and can be of any format, but usually appear as hires####.fits or h###.fits where "###" is the frame number of the exposure.


Type ( filename ) Description
Object file ( hires####.fits ) Raw HIRES FITS image file containing object spectrum to be extracted. (more info)
Trace file ( hires####.fits ) Raw HIRES FITS image file of a bright star or "pinhole" quartz lamp exposure. This is used to define the echelle order trace positions. (more info)
Flat file ( hires####.fits ) Raw HIRES FITS image file of a quartz lamp exposure. (more info)
Arclamp file ( hires####.fits ) (optional) Raw HIRES FITS image file of a Thorium-Argon arc lamp exposure. Required for wavelength calibration. (more info)
Short Dark file ( hires####.fits ) (optional) Raw HIRES FITS image file of a short (0 or 1 second) dark (shutter closed) exposure. Used to derive column-to-column bias pattern. (An archive pattern will be used if not provided.) (more info)
