...that on the Zernike campus, a team of
scientists and Big Data experts is slowly building
a digital 3D copy of the Universe, exploring the nature of dark matter
and learning how the first stars were born? Wait, is this about
astronomy? Well, it’s about Big Data. Astronomy is just one domain
where future progress is largely defined by how well we learn to play
with Big Data. And that is what Target project is all about!
The Target project is a 30 million euro project funded by the EU funds for regional development and the province of Groningen and Drenthe to develop novel technologies for Big Data. These technologies will ultimately impact you, me, the young entrepreneur who wants to make a difference, the renowned professor who's searching for the origins of our Universe, the doctor who's striving to deliver a reliable diagnosis to his patients.
Come to the Donald Smits Center for Information Technology on May 10th to hear, touch and see Big Data at work. Check out
the video below to learn why you should join Target to take Big Data for
a walk. After that it's time to look at our Program for details.

The European Commission and the Dutch government believe it's important to show to the public what projects and initiatives in the Netherlands are being realized with the EU taxpayer money. That's why, every year, they organize the "Europe around the corner" open days ( Europa om de hoek Kijkdagen). This year, projects around the country will welcome the public on May 9, 10 or 11.
